You just lost a big customer, AWS crashed and your site was down for a day, your new product release was a flop, or your most recent executive hire stinks and you’re just coming to terms with it. Sometimes, bad sh*t happens…
In the rest of this chapter on headspace, we’ve detailed: (i) strategies to manage your stress, (ii) reasons you may be accidentally filling your calendar just to feel busy instead of working smarter, and (iii) the importance of understanding your personal goals in addition to your company goals. These are strategies too help you find, and stay in, the right headspace as you continue to push forward.
Despite all that, bad sh*t will most certainly happen to you and your company, which can make you second guess yourself including whether or not you should ever have been CEO of your business in the first place. It’s in these moments you need to realize it’s part of every company’s story and it’s okay. There’s no magic formula to avoid this. The only thing to do is to accept it and start again.

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
— Michael Jordan
